2016 Season - Week 22 (Cont)

All-BUMS 2016

For the first time in the 22 year history of the BUMS the 2016 Player of the Year isn’t a player at all but the Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders. Jack Del Rio scored 19.5 points, half a point more than Dallas rookie rusher Ezekiel Elliott. Zeke is joined in the All-BUMS 2016 backfield by fellow first timer David Johnson, while Le’Veon Bell is a backup for the second time, along with LeGarrette Blount. Derek Carr starts at QB with Matt Ryan as the number two. Julio Jones led the receivers for his second start, along with Jordy Nelson (2 starts, 1 backup) and fellow Packer Davante Adams. Antonio Brown (1 start) is a backup for a second time, as is Mike Evans while Martellus Bennett makes the team as a backup, his first selection. Atlanta’s high scoring kicker Matt Bryant starts after two appearances as a backup. The 11 BUMS who voted made 49 different choices for their favourite players (see votes attached). Anatomy Of A Champion Last year Craig finished 8th in the Premiership, one place above the drop zone and scored less than all three promoted people in the Conference. With Alex drafting last as a new franchisee replacing John Botten, Craig drafted fourth. His two franchise players were wide receivers TY Hilton and Michael Crabtree who scored 38 and 50 points respectively. In the second round he drafted his third receiver Marvin Jones who scored 24 points. So his three receivers cost $2m and scored 112 points but it was that fourth pick in the draft which led Leamington to victory. Arizona RB David Johnson scored 20 TDs and a 2 point conversion for a total of 122 points. Craig’s third round pick was rookie Derrick Henry but the RB failed to score and was cut on Trading Day 1 replaced by the 14th TD1 selection (and sixth RB taken), Bears rookie Jordan Howard who went on to score 36 points. In round 4 he took Head Coach Andy Reid who led Kansas City to 12 victories and Leamington to 72 points. His last two drafted players were both controversially cut on Trading Day two after fifth rounder Lions kicker Matt Prater had scored 67 points and sixth rounder Seattle QB Russell Wilson who had been injured earlier in the season and only scored 27 points. Wilson went on to score 42 more points in the last 8 weeks but he was replaced with the seventh pick of Trading Day 2, Drew Brees who scored 54 points. Selected one pick before Brees was Tyrod Taylor who scored 33 points. The reason I mention this, Taylor was taken by Marcus who finished 4 points behind Craig in the Premiership. Finally he replaced kicker Matt Prater (who went on to score 54 more points) with Saints rookie Wil Lutz who scored 67 points including a critical 31 points in the final three weeks which were enough to see Craig become the 13th different owner to win the Papas Fritas Trophy.
